For my project, I translated a short video from YouTube. The video was a compilation of various scenes from the Korean TV show, The Glory. Unfortunately, the video was taken down after I completed my translations.
I chose to utilize a table format for this project, because I thought it would be the easiest format for the readers. This is also the format that I am most familiar with as a freelance translator, where the timecode is displayed right next to the dialogue. Some aspects of the process were easier than others. For example, it was easy to translate this video because the tone is mostly conversational. However, it was difficult to translate some cultural expressions that do not translate directly into English. For instance, at 02:41, Sa-ra says a word that is directly linked to Buddhism. Dong-eun says that it is blasphemy, because Sa-ra is Christian. I could have used a direct translation for this, but it would have been awkward and required an additional explanation.
